It is designed to be hung by the 2 square brackets in a horizontal position. It can operate in two lifting speeds depending on how you rig the cable. The yellow control provides either up down or stopped motion.

It was used to lift over 200lb bakery mixers on to welded wheeled carts safely. A hoist is handy when the thing to be raised is heavy and cumbersome in its dimensions.
