The tree of grinders offers quick access to a grinder already set up with a particular disk for a specific purpose.

Swapping disks takes way too long and involves unplugging the grinder for safety reasons, shedding gloves for better feel, undoing the nut using the specific tool, centering a disk, replacing the nut, putting work gloves back on, plugging the grinder back in and spinning the disk up to make sure it is centered properly. For any given job, grinders are switched out dozens of times depending on need at the moment. Not having an assortment of grinders at the ready would be tedious and time consuming.

Battery operated grinders don't last long enough and waiting for batteries to recharge is too time consuming. They also become less effective as the battery drains during use and the batteries are expensive.
